Used Units

We know some of you may be considering a pre-owned ESCAPE home. Properly maintained, our homes can last for decades—we own many older units ourselves. However, over the years we have also seen situations where used units were not properly cared for, and we want to help buyers avoid costly surprises.

Buying a used ESCAPE can represent excellent value, but it is important to approach the purchase carefully and do your homework. Always inspect the unit in person and, ideally, hire a qualified professional to evaluate all major systems before purchasing. Never buy sight unseen.

Be sure to ask detailed questions about the unit’s history, including whether it has ever frozen or experienced water intrusion, as those issues can sometimes create hidden damage. Ask for maintenance records, the original owner’s manual, and accompanying documents. If those items are missing, it is reasonable to ask how routine maintenance was performed and documented over time.

Routine maintenance is extremely important with any RV, particularly roof systems, leveling, seals, tires, plumbing, and HVAC systems. As with any vehicle or structure, deferred maintenance can eventually lead to expensive repairs.

Please also note that warranties on older units are typically expired and are not transferable to subsequent owners. Even so, we have always tried to help owners where reasonably possible, even when no warranty obligation exists.

Another important consideration is that products and suppliers change over time. Appliance manufacturers regularly discontinue or redesign models, window systems evolve, and replacement parts may no longer match original dimensions or specifications. These changes are outside our control and can complicate repairs or replacements on older units.

If the unit has been stationary for a long period, inspect the tires carefully. Tires may appear fine visually while still being unsafe due to age or lack of use.

Finally, many ESCAPE models require special transport considerations. Wider and taller units may require permits, routing restrictions, and CDL-licensed drivers depending on the destination and applicable regulations.

A well-maintained ESCAPE home can provide many years of enjoyment. We simply encourage buyers to proceed carefully, inspect thoroughly, and understand exactly what they are purchasing before completing a transaction.

Best regards,

The ESCAPE Team
